2 Free Brain Games For Boosting Your Fluid Intelligence In 2022

When you’re struck by a new problem, how well can you solve it?

Your ability to problem-solve creatively & reason effectively when facing a new situation—that’s what psychologists call “fluid intelligence”. And the fascinating thing about it is: it’s not a fixed IQ score. Here are 2 free, fun brain games that will test how flexible your cognitive skills are & how well you remember things—all while improving your fluid intelligence. They’ll be challenging from the get go, but see how many levels you can get through as you actively train your mental agility.

The Memory Tester: PathCubes

The idea behind PathCubes is simple enough: at the beginning of each level, you’ll be shown in a flash which tiles are safe (and will score you points) before it’s left to your memory to get you through safely to the end. But the challenge is: it’s not always a one-way path. Sometimes you have to backtrack, or land on an impossible tile that takes you to oblivion—and if (god help you) you land on the wrong tile, be prepared for your cube to explode, get flattened, or struck by a cannonball.

Once your cube’s got past level 20 after dying/retrying/then starting to think “you’ve got this”, that’s when the game adds a whole second layer for you to remember & seriously challenge your memory.

A super fun brain game with 60 levels—you’ll literally feel your brain getting snappier as you build up your score (and try not to get zapped by lightning).

The Intelligence Enhancer: Dual N Back 3D

Dual N Back 3D is a gamified, 3D version of an extremely well-studied brain training exercise—with proven improvement for fluid intelligence that actually spills over to other mental activities. Ready to power up your memory attentiveness?

The game will show you 9 boxes, with a cube appearing randomly with a specific color and box position. The objective is to remember both the color and box position of the previous cube (1-back)—if the cube is blue twice in a row, for example, you press color, and if it’s in the same position twice in a row you press box.

But the brain training happens when you have to remember the color/position of the cube two steps previously (2-back). And every time you score 5 points, you’ll have to remember a cube a further step behind (all the way up to 12-back!)

A seriously challenging game—that’s so satisfying because of it—just doing a little every day will guarantee you get smarter and enhance your executive functioning.
